How to control the actual installed internet explorer with webbrowser control?

Hallo,

I suppose that the 'webbrowser' control of VB6 (shdocvw.dll) is an interface to the IE API (and does not contain a whole browser), right?
It uses OLE to embed the view of the currently installed browser into a control.
Remark: Another way of integration won't be very useful as a browser is very dependant from new versions!

But now I realised differences between the (only!) installed IE (version 9) and the browser view of the webbrowser control within my vb6 application - loading the same URL. The one of my vb6 appl. does not properly show the page as it is.
Can anybody explain this phenomena to me?

I would wonder very much but would have to conclude that the shdocvw.dll must contain an independant browser after all that.
On the other hand I can see that it cannot be an old version like IE 4 that is mentioned in the internet as being the basic parser version of it.
Very strange. How can this be declared?...

In this case, does anybody know how I can embed the actual installed browser into a vb6 application (without starting it directly)?...
Thank you for your help!
