Recently I needed to fix up a VB6 program I wrote over 8 years ago. I thought I would be able do it in Win 7, but I couldn't get VB's IDE running properly. So I installed XP in a VirtualBox and did it all there.
However, while trying to get things working in Win 7 Ultimate (SP1), I think I porked some controls. I installed VB6 Enterprise, VS6sp6.exe (just realised this should have been VB6sp6), and VB6Cli. I got some compatibility warnings, some tools wouldn't run, but in the end the IDE did come up but not quite right.
I think that during the above process I have overwritten a (few) control(s) with older versions or something along these lines.
When I attempt to browse a page in IE, it looks as though the DNS address is resolved (the tab shows: "Waiting for TheSite.com"), but that's as far as it gets. I've also had a couple other programs that get stuck like this. I don't get a time out error, no server not found error, or anything which normally happens when there is a problem with the internet connection. (Actually, I did get "This page can't be displayed" in IE after about 10 minutes.)
I can however, access the web with Firefox, MSOutlook 2007, Google Earth (which gave a C++ error message for one picture I looked at but many others were ok) and other programs.
I have uninstalled VB6 but that didn't fix the problem. VS6sp6 does not have an uninstaller.
I have a fairly recent Win7 image but don't want to overwrite my whole C drive.
I don't use/have a restore point. :blush:
Anyone have any ideas on how I can revert to standard Win7 controls? Can I use the recovery disk and selectively copy files across? Is there a list of files installed by VB that I can compare against what I have?
(I thought I would ask here in the VB6 forum as others might have had similar experiences with Win7/VB6.)
