Today I've started the VB6 IDE for a new project and have clicked on project/components menu to select "Microoft Windows Common Controls 6.0 (SP6)". After clicking OK the message "File not found" popped up. However, the mscomctl.ocx file was actually in the windows\system32 directory (this is Windows 7, 32 bit version).
So it looks as if someone had been tampering with those files in system32 but I'm the only user of that computer. I decided to download a fresh copy of mscomctl.ocx, registered it and restarted windows, but still the above message is coming out.
If instead of OK I click on Browse and manually select the mscomctl.ocx file, then the program hangs and I have to ctrl/alt/del.
Any ideas?
